Hazardous wastes contain toxic substances and are often corrosive, flammable, highly reactive or poisonous. It is essential that hazardous wastes are appropriately managed to ensure environmental and human health are not jeopardized. The following programs ensure that hazardous waste is properly managed.
EH&S Hazardous Waste Program
The Hazardous Waste Program is responsible for providing cost-effective hazardous waste management in compliance with federal, state, and local regulations. Customer service is provided for chemical pickups, emergency spill response, and assistance on shipping hazardous materials. This program only handles hazardous waste generated at UCSB. UCSB Lab Waste Program
The Lab Waste Program is designed to assist generators of lab glass, sharps, and autoclaved waste dispose of their materials properly. This Program is a partnership between Environmental Health & Safety, Facilities Management, and LabRATS. If your laboratory or department has been instructed to participate in this program, please use the following links for additional information regarding program logistics.
EH&S Community Hazardous Waste Program
UCSB’s EH&S Department also serves as a public collection center for oil, paint, and household chemicals. Hours for the Community Hazardous Waste Programs are as follows:
Saturday: 9:00am – 3:00pm
Sunday: 11:00am – 3:00pm
